Is there any special care that must be taken with displaying a sword?

E.g. Do I have to clean it? If so, how often? Are there any other things I have to take into account?
Elven Archer
I think in a country like Singapore where its pretty humid and there's a lot of moisture in the air, oxidization might occur faster. if you go to Caesars Gun Gallery, they sell a tube of polish which you can use to polish the blade of your sword every few months. smile.gif
RebelScum
Will the blade tarnish over time if it isn't polished?

Supposedly, you don't have to polish the blade that often, once every few months will do. However, you do have to keep the sword clean (ie free of fingerprints) and give it a coat of oil.
RebelScum
Thanks for the advice guys! It's been very informative even though I don't own a sword yet! wink.gif
Elven Archer
yeah. be careful of the fingerprints. the oil residue it leaves behind might do some damage to the blade. smile.gif
RebelScum
I guess I'd better handle the sword with gloves then! wink.gif
Elven Archer
a toy site suggested you wear gloves if you're the type that keeps them carded and like to pick them up and admire them once in a while. the oil left by your finger on the plastic packaging can make it turn yellow.
Webtoyssg
wow, really good to learn about taking care of swords.

Thanks

are these the prices for the UC replica Hadhafang and Narsil or the price of the un-named replicas?

check out this auction.

LOTR Prop Elven Sword/Shield

its from UC......
DNA
there are so many nice replicas to own.....i think i can go broke chasing them.....so wondering if should give up before i even start.......sigh.....

and i think narsil looks nicer though....anduril likes kinda ornamental....
Elven Archer
they seem to have reduced their prices for the swords. Anduril is a must have for me. it's a limited edition sword and I think it looks better with the Elvish carvings in the sword.
Elven Archer
mauahaha! bought Anduril, Flame of the West today from Caesars Gun Gallery. its a really nice sword. when I bought, I was given a United Cutlery LOTR mini-catalog of their stuff plus what will be released next year. they gonna have these miniature swords which look like letter openers. pretty cool. also, they gonna make Gandalf's and Saruman's staff. damn tempted to buy those too. biggrin.gif
Yan
how much u bought it?i thought u prefer to buy fr. overseas?so are those swords fr. cassars gun gallart authentic?straight fr. UC or just imitation? blink.gif

retail price for Anduril is S$595. since I'm a member got it for S$505.75. yeah the LOTR swords sold from Caesars are authentic United Cutlery swords. if I bought from overseas would come to the same price. have to take into consideration the amount I had to spend to blunt the sword, amount for the license and the taxi fare. I only bought Sting from overseas coz it was small and light so shipping wouldn't be as costly as the other swords. plus, you can't find it in Singapore anymore. if you gonna get Anduril overseas and ship it here, it's gonna cost a bomb. its really heavy and I think its the longest sword UC has made so far.
Retracting Head Ter Ter
I wanted to buy the witch king's sword. Then I saw the Kang Xi one with the brass fittings and blew my money on that instead.
Yan
hm....considering buying a legolas fighting knifes...will look so damn cool on my wall.... laugh.gif ...hm...how to be a member?like quite an amt discounted... ohmy.gif

I plan to get the Legolas Fighting Knives too and King Elendil's helmet. I thnik the retail price for the fighting knives is S$495. all you need to do to become a member is spend on anything inside the shop worth S$300 and you're an instant member. when you're a member, you're entitled to the 15% discount. S$495 after 15% discount is S$420.75. smile.gif

btw, whats a Kang Xi sword? any pic of it?

whoa...u sure spending alot on these weapons of mass destruction....hm...atleast in middle earth...too bad i still a student...need to consider damn long....hm....or should i get a fell beast by sideshow....

Elven Archer
Fell Beast by Sideshow cost US$150. can check it out at their website. The UC swords are only meant for display. they are no way like those you see in the movies which are used for battle. the material used is different. the UC swords are made of stainless steel while the movie props are made of carbon steel, a tougher more durable type of steel. if you try striking the UC sword on something hard, the blade will probably fracture.
guoyi
haha, i bought a narsil some months back for 450 or so from Caesar's... hmm... shld have waited and bought Anduril instead... oh well...

erm.. Ghazi, for the Wizard's staffs they are producing, is the Gandalf one the staff when he was still 'grey' or 'white'?
Elven Archer
it's Gandalf the White's staff. here's a scan of the mini-catalog.

xcalibur912
4 SWORDS!!!.....and u say only!!! blink.gif .....if on average...1 cost abt $450....tt's abt close to 2k worth of sword!! blink.gif
Elven Archer
yeah around that amount. I'll probably spend about $3,000 to $4,000 on the replica items. maybe even more. biggrin.gif
guoyi
me interested in getting the wizard's staffs.. but think i shall get one onli... which one shld i get???
Elven Archer
who do you like better? Saruman or Gandalf? I have to admit though, Saruman's staff look more impressive. smile.gif
guoyi
yup... me feel tat way too! saruman's one is defintely nicer.. got crystal ball!
Giant
Hahaa... The staff think will cost $400 plus like what Elven Archer said. Saruman is metal one while Gandalf one is wooden one.
Elven Archer
I think the staffs will retail between S$320-S$380. anything more and it'll be expensive. here is what is mentioned in the catalog.

Staff of Saruman
- Leaded glass crystal ball with frosted etch pattern
- Solid metal crown and shaft (ships in 2 pieces)
- Stainless steel wall mount with embossed design
- 76-1/8" overall length
- list price US$223.99

Staff of Gandalf the White
- Intricately detailed crown
- Solid wood shaft (ships in 2 pieces)
- Stainless steel wall mount with embossed design
- Parchment certificate
- 72" overall length
- list price US$223.99

Giant
Yup I fully agree with u.... Super fantastic...
Singer high
Hey guys, any news when Strider's Elven Hunting Knife will be in, and how much will it cost? Also, is Hadhafang + stand still available in Sg, and how much? I like the curves on these Elven blades.

Die ah, I'm not supposed to get into this expensive hobby! I managed to stay away last year after TTT, but after watching ROTK... cry.gif tongue.gif

laugh.gif You like broken sword ? tongue.gif
Elven Archer
they have 2 versions of Narsil. one is the complete sword which retails for $495. the other is the Shards of Narsil, which is the broken pieces. the latter is a limited edition piece and retails for $595.
bleahhh
stinks man..i hae placed an order of andurill...bu i missed the jan shipment..the next would be around april...i wondering if i should get it at all....
bleahhh
made my order and paid the deposit...but its a looong wait till april!! sad.gif
Elven Archer
well it's worth the wait. it's better if you reserve a piece for yourself now. if you order Anduril after Feb 2004, the price will increase by almost S$100.
bleahhh
well, i have a feeling it will be so! biggrin.gif

And thnks to this forum and to some one who posted the promo on the FIRST mag, I got mine cheaper by more then $90!!
guoyi
smile.gif hello,

jus went down to caesar's yesterdat... think i shall grab the sword of the witch king and saruman's staff (which will be in jan/feb)

the guy there was nice enough to let me handle the sword of the witch king... feels lighter than narsil and anduril but its actualli longer than both cos of its reali long handgrip...
DNA
decided to get anduril......not for the sake of looks but rather keepsake......so far i got anduril (placed order) and hadhafang......i think the two complements each other quite well.....maybe narsil i can get next time cos anduril is limited....
