ok. keep us dated. I should be moving into my own place in Sengkang before the end of the year. I've decided to make my study into my own personal space with my swords and statues in there. thinking of giving the study a LOTR-related name like the Shire or Hobbiton or something to that extent.

Glamdring Scabbard to be released!!!United Cutlery has said they are indeed going to make the scabbard for Glamdring. Kit Rae said back in November of 2003 they are just waiting on getting the actual movie prop at United before they can proceed so it shouldn't be much longer before we see this requested scabbard.
I will surely get tat

anyone into scabbards? I onli hv the sting one... the strider one is way too ex- for a scabbard...

but unconfirmed whether saruman's staff will be included.. apparently UC onli fulfilling partial orders for most retailers this time round...
gandalf's staff prob not in so soon..

unfortunately.. despite my multiple sword collection... nv managed to grab the ultimate big fishes like wat u hv... haha... LE shards and anduril....
noelchiew
Apr 24 2004, 05:55 PM
haha i ordered early on my shards, when the movie just came out so i guess the popularity wasnt that much yet. for the anduril, lucky also, i hesitated on ordering as i thought not many ppl would be willing to pay so much for it. boy was i wrong... ordered just in time, if i had ordered maybe a week or 2 later, sure wont get it liao. but i had waited some time, as i belonged to the 2nd batch of LE andurils that caesars brought in.
man... this obsession with lotr really cost me a bomb already! i thought hey maybe i'm the only guy who's so into this.
i see some of you have said you pretty much just hang yr sword plaques on walls on something. i had my shards put into a framed case. most prob going to do the same with anduril but i want to get the scabbard first, only then can i get the measurements correct. and then i'll display both sword n scabbard together.

(provided i've money $$$!!) till then, they'll just have to settle in boxes i guess.
glass cabinets i see are far too exp, dont seem worth it, like abt 200++ - 300++. lucky i've 1 given to me which only can put some.

so cheap for a glass cabinet? I'm gonna customise a glass cabinet which will be about 12 feet long. gonna cost me $2000+.
noelchiew
Apr 25 2004, 01:47 AM
it's those glass cabinet that are small, like those u see at ikea those kind, some are like wooden but the sides are glass so u can see thru, others total glass, even the partitions. squarish tall kind, usually abt 4-5 shelves.
wha 2000!!! 12 feet is abt 4 metres? man, this is an exp hobby eh? not only swords are exp, but to get displays to hold them and other lotr collectibles are damn exp also.
just been to dotcon and ordered the last alliance busts. so for those for you guys who bought many swords from caesars, so far redeemed lots of stuff? i noticed those stuff for redemption arn't really good quality. either they are pirated movie swords or samples given to them. sad... pistols are ok though.
noelchiew
Apr 25 2004, 01:56 AM
oh guoyi, i cant really remember how much i bought the shards for. but it was my first purchase and thus it was bought at non member price which is rather costly. at least 595 i think.
yeh i got both my shards and le anduril from caesars. but then i realised that yeh, looks at though they aer selling rather expensively eh? you can try ebay too, i've seen uc's swords for sale at cheaper prices than caesars (w/o shipping cost). i think you have already done that since you said you got most from caesars which means you had some from overseas perhaps.
so... any probs bringing them in? they would just pass customs like a normal parcel? the postman delivered right to your door?
Elven Archer
Apr 25 2004, 02:01 AM
I may have to scrap the plan of having a customised glass display as it might look unsightly. I plan to display my statues in the display and as you know the statues are rather heavy. the glass shelves need to be thick to support the weight. on top of that, there has to be partitions to ensure the shelves don't cave in under the weight.
to date, I only have 5 swords. Glamdring, Hadhafang, Sting, LE Anduril and Fighting Knives of Legolas. hope to get Herugrim when it's released ant maybe the 2 wizards' staffs. also eyeing the Helm of Elendil.
noelchiew
Apr 25 2004, 02:16 AM
i feel the helm's cheaper at ebay than caesars. prob in general all others as well. yeh i know the prob, the glass if not strong wont take the weight of those polystone. my cabinet's like that, a little curved down cos of the weight but still can take it. diff to decide eh? what i think is can customise with glass on the front obviously, side, then the shelves can be made from other material, wood. i mean i may be wrong as i dont know what kind of cabinet you were making. stand alone or as a mounted to the wall kind.
how are the knives? i heard quite a no of complains from ppl that the actual piece's handle's colour was disappointing as they though that it was more to white as seen on the cover pictures but they were more like yellow. what's yr take?
Elven Archer
Apr 25 2004, 02:20 AM
the helm is definitely cheaper on eBay. even with shipping, the most you'll pay is $460. I think the knives are nice. I think I was a little surprised with the size of the knives. I expected them to be a little broader.

Where does one get the money for such collectibles??
The swords do look good but looking at the price tags, i can't help but feel a stab of pain forking out the money from my wallet.
I reckon a big part of it must be from the bonuses we get every end year.

well, it's not like 1 shot you buy so many collectibles. maybe kinda like a bit at a time, so you can get your time to save up again.
true the prices are a little steep but that's the kind of money you pay for such specialised memorabillia... it's one of a kind, specially made due to the movie, not some thing that you just buy from the street anywhere.
u oughta know that not all are working class ppl who collects, there are students and also nsfs like me! but then if you are a regular, you pretty much have much more money too. so iceman, you dont collect these swords?

can always keep first, unless you dont even have space to store the boxes. of course yr last sentence is true. if you dont have interest, why would you part your cash to buy it in 1st place?? it is interest which makes you buy things aint it true.

oh you mean they dont know what items will be shipped over by UC for the next shipment ah? actually i do agree the sales staff are nice and friendly, esp nelson from far east who i talk to pretty often. reason being i've got lots of complains!!! haha, actually, not their fault, it's UC's but then i wish they could handle it faster. it's their head office to blame, afterall, the sales staff are just there to help, not to solve probs.
what happened was i realised not too long ago that my shards was missing the autographed cert and my anduril was supposed to come with some kind of a wooden support thing to be screwed on the plaque to support the sword. i checked around overseas, the owners said they have it in their box, but caesars told me UC forgot to make it during production. hm.... conflicting

noelchiew
Apr 26 2004, 11:59 AM
i called them straight at first, cos the sales staff cant do anything mah. then the head office person dont even know what i'm talking about, so they had to get back to me later after consulting nelson. then they called me back saying their manager not around, wait till he's back then they will call me back, waited like 3 freaking weeks and still have not called. so i emailed them. and so they said they will try to get a reprint of the cert (which is crazy, why should i settle for a reprint?) and they will try and see if they can get the wooden support piece.
so i went to UC's forum and then a admin told me to try contacting Kit Rae (owner of UC) direct after seeing my probs. So i did, now waiting to see any reply.
i mean i dont know how other owners of UC's swords think, but then how come it seems UC's shipment here have so many prob. nelson told me they had lots of customer complains. and you know what? i'm not the only 1 missing the cert. too much of a coincidence??? as though UC throw us the defective or lousy quality stuff, or else they nev make sure their products are delivered very safely.

ok... this is for u icemansingapore and anybody else who are into sword collecting....
i just came back from Sheares... this is the replica sword shop i was toking abt the last time... from wat i see... this shop offers the best retail prices for UC merchandise... ie.. our LOTR blades... eg.. sting goes for 320, hadhafang for 360 and the long swords (ie. UL anduril, strider, glamdring) for 390...
the shop is located along beach road... just further down the road from raffles hotel... it faces shaw towers...
the shopfront is basically cluttered with army paraphernalia... the goodies are at the back of the shop...
and icemansingapore.... i think the sword of the witchking shld be 390 there... caesars sells it for 390 too last i heard... but onli for members...
