hi guys, need to chk wif u peeps. as some of u guys know, i'm at NZ now and was wondering if i'll need to apply any license or permit to bring home a LOTR replica sword. If yes, how do i go about it? if not, i reckon it will not cause any hassle to me by bringing home a sword . no?

pardon my ignorance. cause i dun wanna end up having my sword kenna confiscated upon chking in to changi airport. tongue.gif

thx in advance
Elven Archer
as for as I know, you shouldn't have any problem. even when you buy swords locally, they don't require you to register anything. all the swords from UC are false-edged which means they're blunt so it's impossible for you to cause harm with them. just explain to the nice custom officers if they stop you that it's for decoration purposes. smile.gif

thx a bunch! smile.gif

cheers!
defiance
definately not a problem. brought back a couple of swords (not LOTR) and went through customs without any hassle.
Elven Archer
what swords did u buy defiance?

hey komics, how much are they selling UC LOTR swords in NZ? smile.gif
defiance
i bought chinese kung fu swords. haha. didn't know why? but just bought it.
Elven Archer
starting your own martial arts school? biggrin.gif
Webtoyssg
some of the chinese swords are very nice, like those famous swords from the kung-fu novels.
Elven Archer
I always preferred fantasy and medieval swords.

Do you like them?
Elven Archer
kris? is that short for kristine or kristina? wink.gif

damn leceh. got a letter from SingPost today indicating that my Sting sword is being held by their customs dept. seems like I need to go to the Arms & Explosive Branch of the Police Cantonment Cpx to get an import approval before I can collect it. I have 14 days to do it or else it will be sent back. bummer! sad.gif

oh buggar, does tat means i need to apply for some sort docu too to bring the sword in? sad.gif
Elven Archer
not sure man. collected the Sting, went back to the Police Cantonment Cpx to open the parcel in front of the lady at the counter. lo and behold, the sword's edges were sharp. she actually took it and cut part of the box with it. now I have 1 week to find some workshop that can file the edges down till its blunt. if not, I either have to ship the sword back or have it destroyed.

anyways, Aragorn's sword is Narsil.
DNA
that's why i bought mine from caesars, about 20% discount for narsil.
Elven Archer
it makes me wonder how Caesars got theirs true. I bought my Hadhafang from Caesars and the blade is sharp so like I said it makes me wonder.

Do you have to get permit/licence for swords or guns you bought from there?
Elven Archer
no you don't. if you buy from Caesars, you don't need a permit. they do take your paticulars but that's becoz you become a member when you buy anything above $300 and they send you monthly newsletters.
Webtoyssg
ok, I better watch it when I order the swords from overseas.
bleahhh
hey webtoysg!! haha..i still wan to order i guess...do drop an sms to me, when u decid eto order and we talk abt it again ya? thnks..
Webtoyssg
ok, let me know fast if you are still interested and which swords you want.

email me at webtoyssg@yahoo.com

Thanks
Elven Archer
the swords you're ordering are not from UC right?
alixker
I still think the authorities would have kept a record or at least Caeser should keep a record of their customers.

Maybe the monthly newsletter also doubles as a record.
Elven Archer
that's my gripe. why can't the police just take down my particulars. I'll be more than willing to co-operate. now I have to go hunting for a workshop that does this and I can tell you they are few and far between.
alixker
Try those wielding shops or check out the yellow pages.

Singapore MIGHT have a sword/ironsmith somewhere.
Elven Archer
the problem is what category to search under.
alixker
Just maybe, you can try Beach Road. wink.gif

How much did you get Hadhafang for? I'm interested in getting it but I've never bought any swords before. Any red-tape or hassles we have to go through?
Elven Archer
if you buy from Caesars no red tape. for a member it cost S$420.
RebelScum
What's the price for non-members then?

Also, I know nuts about buying swords so could anyone explain to me what the difference is between United Cutlery swords and replica swords?

I think the LOTR swords cost a $495 for non-members

UC swords are replicas. They are not "real" swords and are only meant for decoration.
Elven Archer
yeah it cost S$495 to buy a sword for non-members at Caesars Gun Gallery but after buying a sword from them, you are already considered a member. the next time you buy a sword from them, you're entitled to the 20% storewide discount.

UC is the company licensed by New Line Cinema to make the replica swords. they would be of better quality and craftsmanship then the other cheaper replica LOTR swords which you can find on the internet.
RebelScum
Ok thanks for the info guys. You've all been very helpful! wink.gif
Elven Archer
no worries. I read there's another compnay called Noble Collection which manufacturers LOTR swords which are of comparable quality to UC's but I think they're a little more expensive.

all I'm waiting now is the release of Anduril. smile.gif
RebelScum
I'd like to get Hadhafang but I'm gonna have to save up for quite a few months before I can even come close to be able to afford it.

Too bad I'm not a member or else I could get it sooner. sad.gif
Elven Archer
why don't you wait for the next Caesars/SAFRA exhibition on the 18th and 19th of October. they usually sell their swords at discounts then but I think you have to be a SAFRA member 1st. smile.gif
RebelScum
Thanks for the heads-up but I haven't been a SAFRA member for almost 3 years already and furthermore, I won't even be in Singapore during the fair! sad.gif
Elven Archer
one more thing to add. after my sword was filed down so it was not sharp anymore, I brought it back to the Arms & Explosive Branch for a inspection again. it passed this time but guess what. have to pay S$16 for a so-called license which is basically a small piece of paper with your particulars. tongue.gif
gingerfish co
U guys have a Sword Amoury to store them? ohmy.gif
Elven Archer
I'm keeping all my swords in their boxes till I move to my own place. then I'll probably display them in my room or have a special room to display all my toys and swords. smile.gif
DNA
i am torn over anduril and narsil.....and more pictures where i can see closer? haiz sad.gif laugh.gif
Elven Archer
no pictures of Anduril yet. probably have better pics when the sword is released in Nov.
Kin
Hehe, all these talk of LOTR swords have gotten me interested as well. tongue.gif
Came across a site with rather good pictures of them, Anduril included as well.

Here it is :-

Hmmm...thinking whether to get Anduril or Strider with scabbard...
Elven Archer
go for Anduril. it's a limited edition sword. you can always purchase the Strider's sword later.
Kin
EA, I do agree with u. Hmm... however I might consider becoming a member first (if i get from Caesar) and getting Anduril later at a member price.
Elven Archer
Anduril for a member will cost abt S$505 but if you get it after Feb 2004, the price will go up a little, even for a member.
Giant
Hmmm... now the price I think its $500+ But we having a road show at marina square and taking advance orders for the various new swords. If u guys wanna check it out go to Marina Square (Outside MacDonalds) from 18 to 19 October 12pm to 9.30pm.

Cheerios;
Felix
Giant
