i believe the ppl at SSW are real devious in packing their pdts with the EE dvds gift sets... thankfully, i desisted from getting the gift pack versions... and nv started... otherwise, i would in most likelihood be hooked on SSW stuff... and God knows, its an expensive hobby i can't take up...

When I first started my SSW collection, ST had a Aragorn statue displayed on their shelves. While I was still trying to persuade Ann to sell it to me, someone made her an offer she couldn't refused and thus it's "Adios, Aragorn!" I was hitting myself hard for missing out on some of the FOTR statues which are now only available at high prices on the secondary market.
I actually had the chance to own statues like Elrond and Gimli when I started buying SSW items from ST last December, but missed out because I procrastinated too much.
I think many people also learned the same lesson. So that's why they'll just grab whatever is available and ask questions later. Maybe that's why new SSW statues with higher ES are also sold out so quickly nowadays.
BTW, what's up with your new "location" in Chinese characters, Sky?

well retail price of $230 would be good but I know that's no longer possible. a reasonable price would be between $800-900. from what I've observed, prices of certain SSW statues have been falling. one example is the Balrog. I think in the past couple of weeks, the statue has ended in the range of $1500-1800. way below its peak price which was between $2000-2300 a few weeks ago.

well, just look forward dun look back.. that's wat i learnt through collecting figs as the old figs are much more ex.. wait till u find the old statues at good price.. if not dun collect those lohz.. as it's not worth it.
Juz came from yahoo auctions.... there's someone selling a few pieces of head bust and statues and even water globe collectabiles. quite resonable price also. Juz bought a few items from him.

I'd dealt with eaglecloud previously, nice chap, don't know why he's giving up his SSW collection though...
when buying SSW statue/bust (from anyone / shop), remember to open up each & every statue/bust to check for defect.

This is what you can do - give her some examples of how SSW statues/busts has escalated in their value and so what you've just bought is an investment and not just toys.
Some examples for you to pick:

Sky's suggestion is good. I used this on my wife and it worked! She even became slightly interested in SSW items even though she is not a fan of LOTR.

advanced birthdays for the many years to come. also use holidays lor, christmas, new year etc... haha.
at least my gf's quite supportive, though of course she would rather me not spending so much money on lotr stuff. but my parents are nagging about it. cant blame them, i just dont have space to put them so they feel they are like 'chor teng' with those boxes.

I'm more impressed by his gigantic PJTV!
i juz bought 3 retro packs from him.. dident really have $$$ for teh SSW bust. end of the month syndrome.... anyway he is clearing all his collection, figures, ssw, waterglobes and swords.
Anyway, also bought four LOTR posters from a shop in Esplanade and the Weapons and Warfare book from borders.
Came home this afternoon and hid all of it, except the book. hope she dun find out.

so who here has pre ordered the last alliance all 4 pieces from st? it'll be a long long wait before it arrives...
Yes it is. But it's OK. There are other SSW statues like King Elessar and Morgul Lord that will be released before Last Alliance busts. Also gives us collectors a chance to "recharge" our wallets before the heavyweight items like Sauron and GTW/SF statues come our way.

Yup, the new Balrog is an open edition. More pics will be released in a few weeks and the prototype will probably make it's debut at SDCC 2004.
Most SSW collectors will certainly get him just to complete their collection (most have missed out on the LE Balrog), whether the new Balrog's value will increase or not is not important.
As for ST price, I believe it was S$225 but not sure whether that has changed or not, better call them to check. Deposit is required to confirm reservation.

the BE is getting stronger and stronger. told myself I wouldn't buy another bust after my Witchking of Angmar purchase but now I'm so tempted to get a GTW bust. probably have to pay a premium since it can no longer be found at retailers.
the Numenorean Infantryman bust looks real tempting too. please o' please SSW, please make me a Numenorean Infantryman statue.

Ya man... I am so tempted to get the orc soldier bust on display at ST. It looks damn good man. Really bringd out the evil features of those foul creature. Talking abt GTW, I really regretted not getting it when I saw it the very 1st time.
i would like ssw to make a more realistic figure of viggo as king elessar, since they made a statue already, hope they will make a bust.

more realistic viggo as king elessar? err....not sure if you've seen the latest photos of the statue but the resemblance to viggo is spot on.
well, i think neca on is better in terms of resemblance for viggo lahz... wonder when will sauron's pics be up?? 
I know the pic is quite small but I think the likeness of Viggo for the Elessar statue is pretty good. take a look.

this will probably be one of the most sought after statues in the coming months.
need the help of brother Sky and Chimes for this since they're pretty much hardcore SSW collectors. wondering if the both of you collect busts. been looking thru' pics and I have my eye on a few busts. firstly, I would like the both of you to give me your opinion on the bust and secondly, what are the common problems you've heard/encountered/seen with the bust, for example breakages or poor paint job. any help would be greatly appreciated.

gotta admit I'm a polystone addictbut I'm afraid I can't be of much help here as I've steered away from busts to focus on statues/helms/environments and so far I've only got the Treebeard in hand. From the busts that I've seen in real life/pics, I would rank the following busts as the top 5 among your list:
- Gandalf the White
- Numenorean Infantryman
- High Elven Infantryman
- Elendil
- Isildur
I'm sure chimes would be in a better position to advise.
