latest email from ST:
Hi friends,
Here is a list of some of the items coming to Singapore next week:
- Cavetroll Bust
- Smeagol Bust
- Nazgul Steed Bust
- Helm's Deep Environment
- Golden Hall Environment
- Arwen Statue
- Gandalf the Grey Statue
- Legolas Statue
- Elrond Statue
- Boromir Statue
- Watcher in the Waters
- 12" Abe Sapien Figure
- 1/4 Scale Samaritan
We will try to use ebay to list out all the Sideshow items we have to accommodate members who are residing outside Singapore.
As we are unable to accommodate ALL on our waitlist for Boromir, Elrond Statue and Watcher in the Water Statue,
we decided to put it up for auction on Ebay Singapore. Final price should not be high like those those found
in the international ebay sites as it will be hard for others to find their way to these 2 auction listings.
Start bid price is SG$0.01
ELROND =
http://www.ebay.com.sg/viItem?ItemId=6112474390WATCHER IN THE WATER =

http://www.ebay.com.sg/viItem?ItemId=6112474283 If the winner is a Simply Toys member, he/she will get an additional 5% off
the final bidded price.
Good luck to all!

ANyway also recieved the email from ST. Will try my luck on the elrond statue.
anyway here's the stuff i pre-ordered that its coming.
- Helm's Deep Environment
- Golden Hall Environment
- Arwen Statue
- Legolas Statue
Still deciding whether to get the GTG Statue... maybe if they have an extra statue then can consider.

I got a small problem... hope u bros can assist me.
I juz won an ebay auction for an SSW orthanc for US$750. However the seller from US quoted me US$110 for the shipping cost which would take 4-5days... The SSW statue is around 6 pounds.
The trouble is, i think the guy is trying to rip me off the shippings fees. I do not know how to check the fees but i got a feeling he is over charging me. Can anyone of u find out for me wats the estimated price for the shipping?
Secondly, if lets say i do not wish to buy the orthanc from him because of the high shipping fees, will i get into trouble with ebay? (eg. suspension of account or bad feedbacks?)
The total price would be around US$860 which i think is too high. Hope u bros who are experience in ebay can assist me.

you can ask him this: when you receive the item and checked on the postage stamp that the shipping cost is cheaper than what you have paid, will he refund the difference or that shipping cost quoted by him is fixed and flat to include his handling charge. there are many sellers who charge buyers handling charge ie the box and packaging material costs etc...
you will not be suspended untill you got 3 warnings. so i guess you can dont pay him and risk getting the 1st warning from ebay. but you will surely get neg feedback no?

I made a check with him yesterday, he quoted me US$80 for the shipping fees but wanna add about US$30 for handling fees.

i think u cannot traced how he used the handling fees.
Is this the normal practise? i thot handling fees should be included in the original shipping fees.

he's not supposed to charge handling fee if he didn't indicate on his auction page, I believe the $30 is to cover the 4% Paypal fee, eBay doesn't allow it
I presume you didn't ask the seller to quote you the shipping cost before you bid?
why don't you put the URL of your auction here for us to take a look
if the seller's trying to take advantage because you're an overseas buyer, then you may wana consider this - have him ship to vPostUSA instead, since it's an USA address, he would have to only charge you the US shipping cost indicated on his auction page. You'll of cos have to check vPostUSA shipping cost, here's the

sky, i didnt know it's not allowed by ebay to charge the 4% fee. i do see quite a few sellers stating that buyers are to pay it. i though as long you agree to seller's terms & condition, it's ok. then are you to say we should report these sellers to ebay?
ronnie bro, i believe he could have wanted to charge the fee for paypal like what sky has said. made sense.
i am thinking about the price and i feel for that fast shipping of only a few days, and being such a heavy item, i guess it's around that range.

on eBay.com, the seller cannot charge you handling fee unless it's been clearly indicated in his auction page, and even so, it must be a specific amount and not indicated as a % of the final bid price, here's the full text from eBay:
Sellers may not charge eBay buyers an additional fee for their use of ordinary forms of payment, including acceptance of checks, money orders, electronic transfers or credit cards. Such costs should be built into the price of the item-this policy reduces the potential for confusion among bidders about the true cost of an item. Further, some forms of payment surcharges, such as credit card surcharges, are forbidden under the laws of many states, including California.
Can a seller add a surcharge to the final price of an eBay item? Yes, in three instances:
- Sellers may charge a reasonable shipping and handling fee to the final price of their item, providing that this fee is disclosed in the listing. A shipping and handling fee can cover the seller's reasonable costs for mailing, packaging and handling the item. Shipping and handling fees cannot be listed as a percentage of the final sale price.
- Sellers may pass along the costs associated with using escrow, if the buyer chooses to use escrow. Use caution when considering escrow. To avoid being deceived by fraudulent escrow services, use www.escrow.com, eBay's approved escrow service.
- Sellers may choose to accept payment in a different currency than the currency listed on eBay. If the buyer chooses to take advantage of this optional payment method, the seller may pass along to the buyer any costs associated with the currency exchange, provided that the costs are disclosed and agreed to in advance by the buyer.
Note: Some types of payment surcharges are permitted on some of eBay's international sites.eBay Policy - Surchargenoelchiew, you can report these sellers

Hi Wander_fool,
Actually this is very common in ebay, almost all sellers will try to earn from from shipping cost also. Very few will actually stick to actual shipping cost.
Example:
For the berserker statue, if you got see other sellers' auctions.
Some of them shipping cost for it to worldwide is US$48 via normal airmail which takes about 2 weeks.
But some good sellers charge only US$53 for express airmail which takes only 3 days.
If you want to cancel this deal, it's best you email him and ask the seller first. Normally this kind of ebay deal, if you cancel it, the seller confirm will leave you negative feedback. I don't think -ve feedback is good for you at the moment specially when you have 0 feedback now. Once you have -ve feedback, it will be very hard for you to use this same ebay account to buy or sell anything in the near future.
Another method you can use is, you can email me seller and tell him that you would like to cancel this deal and you will compensate him the ebay fees in that auction. Because the auction ends at US$750. the ebay fees is pretty high. If he's understanding enough, he will call off the deal and sell his item to the 2nd highest bidder in the auction.
Think about it and work it out. All the best to you. Hopefully he can call off the deal.
cheers

hi
actually, Shipping fee and Handling fee are separate issue/cost
maybe u had check with him the shipping fee but left out the handling fee
some sellers may stated shipping fee n added on handling fee later on when due payment, which is not fair. For some may not even care about handling fee. However, some sellers treated both
shipping n handling fee as one.
To play safe and avoid confusion, always ask S&H (shipping and handling fee) as a whole.
Right now, u can check with him that u never expect such a high handling fee. Or he did'n't mention at all, then now got a extra handling fee???
If not , ask him to void this deal mutually????

Hi sky bro, i guess im still new to this ebay thing. Anyway learnt my lesson about bidding overseas.

i have email him about the vPostUSA but he still insist on shipping overseas and not using vpostusa.

actually i emailed him about the shipping cost first. However he replied that i would have to win the auction before calculating the total cost.
I have made a check with the vPostUSA, the shipping cost is only about S$29... a very big difference from the US $110 he quoted me.

Looks like most probably have to send an apology letter explaining my difficulties tonight. Juz pray he dun add -ve remarks to my account.
I guess i should stick to ebay singapore or nearby countries next time before venturing out. Lesson learnt! its not juz bidding and getting the item for the said price... there's a lot of hidden cost behind it.

actually, the seller (I presume he's from US?) cannot say he doesn't wana ship to a US address, unless this is clearly stated on his auction page that he doesn't ship within US.
even though you're not from US, you have every right to ask him to ship to whichever US address you supply him.
if he won't listen to reason, don't be afraid of him giving you negative feedback, since you hv zero feedback right now, he will have more to loose. just use another credit card to register a new eBay account if necessary.
when he gives you the negative feedback, just return the 'favour' and add stingy remarks like "unreasonable seller, won't ship within US, wish to charge exhorbitant shipping/handling fee to cover ebay/paypal cost" or something like that.
don't loose faith in eBay entirely, I've bought/sold many stuff there before, 99% of my deals went smoothly.

paypal is fine, i dont see any problem about it. it's instant payment to the sellers. it's like paying them face to face. i dont like money orders as you pay extra $8 for the admin fee and also the exchange rate is higher than i would have liked. and also it take time for them to get the mail. there's a low chance it may get stolen or lost.
