Just wondering whether anyone here collects LOTR collectibles from Sideshow/Weta?
Some questions for the veteran collectors:
- Do you get your Sideshow stuff from Sideshow online store directly, or from other (overseas) retailers, or from the local distributor here?
- Does shipping cost a bomb if shipping directly from U.S.?
- Is it risky to ship fr overseas as I heard the statue is quite fragile.
Seriously thinking about starting my sideshow collection for LOTR
Advice appreciated!

The Weta stature of Gollum was quite cool which came as a gift with the DVD of TTT, as soon as I heard it was a limited edition 300 pieces here, went to hunt immediately. Found last 2 sets at Suntec.

the statue that came with the TTT DVD Gift Set is Smeagol, if you want to get his 'partner' Gollum statue, need to order from Sideshow online store - price abt US$80 before shipping.
if you buy the FOTR DVD Gift Set, you will get the Argonath statue bookends that are from Sideshow/Weta too, very impressive work!

think someone must have lied to you or you were misinformed. the Gollum statue can be found in every TTT Collector's Edition boxset. how can there only be 300 Gollum statues when there are 5000 of these boxsets circulating worldwide?
I don't collect Sideshow/WETA stuff. already spend a bomb on my UC replica swords. don't want to burn a hole in my pocket. from what I gathered from overseas collectors who buy Sideshow/WETA stuff, you can get them cheaper from online sites rather than Sideshow's website. and yes they are rather fragile. I've heard a few stories of parts of the statue chipping off. and these stories all orginated from US collectors. not sure how the condition will be like when it has to travel even further.

If you are interested to get LOTR mini busts, I can refer you to the corresponding website. Very very good deal.
I got my Gandalf the Grey and Galadriel mini bust for S$67 each (inclusive shipping)
Frodo, Samwise and Pippin Mini Busts for about S$45-50 each. Still looking for Merry mini bust. Oh god, after ROTK, the price of Merry shot up to twce the initial amount.

Thks EA, I also found that out & had checked ST out.
Compared to the online price of Sideshow, ST's price is actually quite reasonable, the more important thing is that you can be sure to get a non-damaged set.
Just trying to see what other choices are available here. If none, will probably get from ST.

sky is right, the smeagol statue came with the TTT dvd gift set and there was a coupon to get the "better half" at USD 80. the sideshow busts and statues are impressive BUT there are SO expensive. come to think of it, when you buy the dvd gift set...you're actually getting the 5 discs for free and what you've paid for is the statue.
hey...the bookends from the houghton mifflin bookset are also worth noting for. they come with a gandald the grey and bilbo baggins bookends.
EA, am curious as to what UC replica swords you have right now. id like to indulge myself in those too someday but the prices at $375 a piece (average) is making me to do alot of savings first

the 11" Talking Gollum is a pretty cool figure. interchangeable heads and 2 buttons at the base, one each for Gollum's and Smeagol's phrases. there is also a small compartment at the base to keep the accessories.

right on, jamtrax! it's really a good deal to get this bookset as Sideshow online store was selling the bookends alone for US$60 and they're already sold out!
I ordered mine from Amazon and it cost me only S$100 all in (with shipping), I consider it a great buy for the beautiful "No Admittance" bookends and the book!

Just my guess.
If someone with contact may be able to sell you say $200+ in SGD, but if the person buys it at retail price and got it sent here... most likely somewhere in the $400+ region SGD...
Doubt anyone will take the risk to sell this.

Went simply toys and checked out the busts and all. I must say some of the statues are not very nicely made. Paint application and sculpts are a little too crude. Busts like grima wormtongue, saruman and gandalf the white are nice but the other 2 were not. one other thing i noticed abt the busts is that nor proportional. Saruman, gandalf, grima are all human form, why is saruman and grima bigger than gandalf. Teh archer and ring wraith a little too big also. The easterling statue is quite neat. The elven archer also not bad. Elrond paint application is not smooth but overall sculpt still acceptable. One think I dun understand, that elrond from FOTR, why they put it under ROTK.
I am gonna get me a gandalf the white busts and some helms.

where are all these sideshow toys sold in sG? all looks neat!! but $200+ a piece..whoa..soem money....
Yah, not all sideshow statues/busts equally impressive. The Easterling & Galadhrim Archer are GREAT & that's why they made my top choices!
GTW Bust is good & I heard that Treebeard bust is going to be better, but it'll be costly at abt S$500-540 (limited 1500 worldwide).
Speaking of helms, EA, better get your helms of Elendil, Isildur & High Elven Infantry fast as they are already officially SOLD OUT on Sideshow.
Understand that the Fell Beast statue is also no longer available even before it's released!
most recent - the Aragorn statue was sold for >US$800

on evilBay, by a S'porean! this guy must hv made a bundle
saw the statue at Far East, quite good but really isn't that fantastic. with US$800, I'd rather buy the Orthanc and/or the Cave Troll
btw, heard that Sideshow may be announcing their 2004 line-up this/next week, hope they have great stuff installed for us

the helms of Elendir, Isildur & Elven Warrior are difficult to get fr overseas and prices have skyrocketed (on evilBay) since they were sold out from Sideshow.
EA, maybe you can try to reserve them from ST as they have a new shipment coming in end of this month and they may these helms.
Got my helm of Galadhrim Archer recently, it's a bit smalller than expected & the paint job is also not as illustrated on the packaging, but I still like it. Will place it next to my Archer statue.

These statues are very big and my problem is space. i have been restricting my collection to busts. If I can revamp 1 of my rooms which has been turned into a storeroom, i most definitely willpick up the berserker and archer statue. Probably elrond too. Seems like i have missed out on some helm. No matter. Will pick up the rohan royal guard and berserker helm. Probably the easterling too. But it seems terribly small. Still waiting for the king theoden one. IS it released yet? Wonder what they are doing for 2004 besides the king elessar statue. There was a rumored exculsive king elendil bust, still haven't seen it yet.
