YAY!!!
Finally a non LOTR fan.
I'm pretty sick of all the hype and attention that has paid to the LOTR.... mind you, I do like the mivies and I'm sure the books are great, but come on people, There are other wonderful books out there.
Granted, LOTR is the grand dadday of them all, the template upon which all fantasy books pay homage to, the book which for that matter CREATED the Fantasy genre...but enough is enough....
Anyway.... I've only read his first three books.
Normaly I prefer my Fantasy filled with Dragos and elves and dawrfs and the likes, and this book was totoally lacking in those aspects ( except for the dragons which i thoghut was pretty cool how gorge brought them into being)
To my supprise, I was intrigued by the first chapter and was hooked immediatle.
This book came highy recomeneded by a good friend

Actually, my wife's the GRR fan. She has all three books and I've only just finished book 1! He has a unique writing style, his chapters are written in the POV of the characters. Different chapters have different moods, depending on character.
As a new GRR reader, I kinda associate certain aspects of the story with other genres. For example the Night's Watch are like Jedi Knights from SW.

yeah... Not Numerical Chapters but POV Chapters.
It's not the Omniscient Narrator telling you whats going on with every one , but you get the entire story from the POV from the different charaters from their respective locations.
Very Unique.
You don't get the entire picture nor are you left in the dark ( Like J.K.Rowlings where the readers knows only as much as the Protagonist,Harry)
Very intriguing read.
also his plot revolves heavily on the politics of the land which was what I found compeling.
Have you read Peter Davids "sir Appropos of Nothing"?
Another excellent book!

Curious?
Curious about what?
G.R.R Martin's A Storm of Crows?
Peter David's Sir Apropos
J.K.Rowlings Harry Potter?
Or The Curiosier and Curiosier master himself...C.S.Lewis?

Cannot take too much political intriuge. Dune and Wheel of time is bad enough...

Wheel of time by Robert Jordan???
I heard that he took 7 freaking think ass books just to tell a POINTLESS story!!!
But then again, I could be wrong.
Is he any good?

I like the first couple of volumes. But the last few has been somewhat lacking in action. He's building up to a finale, but it seemed like he would take another four books at least before he wrap things up.
