hey ppl! chat about his books here. anything also can, talk about your lastest book purchase. can review books for us to know. even collectors of his books can share about your collection.

i'm now currently looking at old books with old publishing/printing years. cant afford those 1st editions of course (they cost thousands of $!!!), just buying the affordable ones. maybe keeping them hoping next time they will be worth more. i know nuts about books though, so anyone here who knows about books, about how to gauge their value etc... can post here also to share.

let's start the ball rolling... my comments on the weapons and warfare book. disappointing, though good point has got to be the fact that it has lots of pictures but there are so many spelling errors which make me feel like the book's some inferior copy and those lousy book that whoever published them are likeboh chup .
Wander_fool
bro, juz bought two books today.

1) LOTR Weapons and warfare

2) Tolkien's middleearth book for the dummies

will start reading them when im free. laugh.gif
noelchiew
love to hear yr views on the weapons n warfare book. see if you have the same views as me.

i've seen the dummies book in stores but didnt buy. let me know how's it too. i feel it isnt to my liking as i read the description at the back which says something like it's not really a tell all about lotr but more to a book which explains certain things which a newbie wouldnt understand i think.
Wander_fool
the book for the dummies explains everything from the beginning of middle-earth, 1st age, 2nd and 3rd.... i believe all the charactors are explained in detail and wat happens to them in the future.. wink.gif

i know king aragon would die and handover the throne to his son. Arwen would then return heartbrokenly back to rivendall where she died upon reaching. tongue.gif

The weapon and warfare book is really highly recommanded... the thing i like is that it shows all the weapons and armours of everyone. Like i dident know that Gil-garald's spear was known a "icicle" to the mordor fiends.

Very enriching to read both books. now got to wait till payday to buy book ends for them. biggrin.gif
noelchiew
but there's like so many spelling errors... actually, i find that if a person doesnt mind having a cheaper book though it may not be brand new or first hand. it's sometimes may be cheaper to get overseas than buying from bookstores here. of course i'm talking about those books that cost over 40bucks or so.
Hothien
Hrrrmmmm what do ya mean by spelling errors? Ist like Celeborn spelt as Keleborn? something like those kinda thingy? Wait for borders or Kino 20% off sale!! (DAMNZ) the Kino jus over 3 weeks ago. Gotta wait for the Borders one. If i'm not wrong.... they hold dat once every 2 months or b4 sch holidays. Haven drop by Kino or Borders during GSS dunno whether will they have sale. MPH havin $6.00 off DUMMIES series on selected titles. Times... if u have the card, 10% off.
Stormbricker
times booth at the world book fair last week (at suntec convention hall) was having 20% discount for all books including the dummies for middle-earth.... but after 20% discount is ard $25++... still quite ex leh... tongue.gif
Wander_fool
But still it would look good on ur shelf if u are into collecting LOTR books. tongue.gif plus put them together with the LOTR theme bookends.
Stormbricker
haha... will definitely get that dummies book la... just hoping i can find it at a much cheaper price lor... tongue.gif typical me la.... biggrin.gif

me still rembr i bought the FOTR & TTT visual companion (hard cover) at a super bargain price during a MPH clearance sales at the spore expo... think the price is like $10 each... and the novels (FOTR/TTT/ROTK) were like $5 each... conditions brand new somemore.... rolleyes.gif
Hothien
Hahaha...Haven been to bookfair. when it end? I jus hate those sickening kids n parents pushing all aorund. (***&^*%$$$^%*)

Regret i didnt buy the weapon and warfare book coz I reckon i wont have the time to read it during sch days...

Hrmmm... will drop by bookfair some day

I got my Art of FOTR from Amazon 2mths ago as I searched & couldn't find it anywhere.

Is the Movie Guide for LOTR good? it's for all 3 movies, right? which branch of Kino did you get them, Orchard?

Elven Archer
yeah Sky. was at Taka Kinokuniya. on my hols now so alot of free time to roam the streets. best time to go is on a weekday between 2 to 5pm when there are not many people around. you'll find them in this section of Kinokuniya close to Cashier D. there's a short flight of stairs up. look under the 'Movies' section. smile.gif

those of you who have bought or read any of the LOTR movie visual companions or makings books would know Brian Sibley. he has just launched his own website which is quite interesting with some behind-the-scenes photos and news of upcoming LOTR books.

actually kino takes in orders for books. so if there are books that you want to find which kino doesnt have, you can order through them. they will source and bring it in for you.

actually i kind of want to buy those visual companion books as well as the making of the trilogy and the movie guide. i just feel they are too exp even after 20% discount. what i am doing now is trying to buy those books from overseas and they can cost less than $30 i believe, with luck.
noelchiew
here are some pics of my very first books i bought. being displayed on my display stand. the stand also features ssw pieces, so if you want to see them, look at the ssw thread.

noelchiew

might consider buying the LOTR 50th Anniversary Edition book. best shipping option would be via vPOST. Amazon.com ships books to International addresses. to ship 1 book to Singapore via Expedited Shipping, which to me is actually Airmail, cost US$16.98 or SG$29.50. Shipping for this book to anywhere in US using Super Saver Shipping is free. Have it shipped to the vPOST address in California and then they will ship it to you for SG$15.98. Not much but you can save SG$13. smile.gif

this together with The "Lord of the Rings" Complete Visual Companion are from harper collins. uk publishers of lotr books. my visual books and the movie guide were all from houghten mifflin us publishers. i wonder why they made it this way, both side publishing the same exact books. just that one's from us, the other uk...

maybe i'll wait for hm to make them just to compliment the set as all from the same publisher. i think hm's books are more exp than hc from the prices i see at kino??
noelchiew
blowup.gif kaoz, bought all 3 visual books already then now they come out with The "Lord of the Rings" Complete Visual Companion which has all the 3 books' pics and more extras. wtf.gif
